The Short Answer: Third-Party is 40–60% Cheaper
For most iPhone models, Fixtronics charges 40–60% less than the Apple Store for the same screen repair. OEM-grade OLED panels used by our technicians produce results visually indistinguishable from Apple Store repairs — but without the $200–$260 premium.
The one exception: if you have AppleCare+, use it. The $29 per-incident cost is unbeatable. But if you're paying out-of-pocket, a third-party shop is almost always the right financial choice.

Does a Third-Party Screen Repair Void Your iPhone Warranty?
No — not legally. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (US federal law), a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because you used a third-party repair service or parts. Apple cannot void your iPhone warranty because you had the screen repaired at an independent shop.
However: if the third-party repair itself causes additional damage, Apple is not responsible for that damage. This is why choosing a reputable, experienced shop matters. At Fixtronics we've repaired thousands of iPhones and stand behind our work.
Will Face ID Work After a Third-Party Screen Repair?
Yes. Face ID uses the TrueDepth camera and dot projector — components that live in the front camera module, not in the screen itself. A screen replacement doesn't touch Face ID hardware, so it continues to work normally.
The caveat: if during a repair the Face ID flex cable is accidentally damaged or the front camera module is mishandled, Face ID can break. This is a technician skill issue, not an inherent limitation of third-party screen repair. It doesn't happen at a well-run shop.
LCD vs OLED: Does It Matter for Screen Repair?
iPhone 11 and older used LCD screens — cheaper to produce, cheaper to replace. Starting with iPhone 12, all iPhones use OLED displays, which offer better contrast, thinner panels, and more vivid colors, but cost more to manufacture and replace.
When we replace an OLED screen, we use OEM-grade OLED panels that match the original in color accuracy, brightness, and touch response. You won't notice a difference in normal use.
Should You Get AppleCare+ Just for Screen Protection?
The math: AppleCare+ for iPhone costs $4–$14/month depending on the model. Over 24 months that's $96–$336. Plus a $29 per-incident deductible. If you break your screen once in two years, a third-party repair shop is almost always cheaper than the total AppleCare+ cost + deductible.
AppleCare+ makes sense if: you frequently drop your phone, you want theft/loss coverage, or you prefer the Apple Store experience regardless of cost. For screen-only protection, it's often not worth it financially.
